Simpler One Sheet Wonder

A couple of weeks ago I shared a one sheet wonder technique which involved cutting up a piece of 12" x 12" (30.5 cm x 30.5 cm) Designer Series Paper to make ten cards.

There is of course a much simple way of cutting the paper and that means you will get six cards from it.  Basically, all you need to do is to cut the 12"x 12" (30.5 cm x 30.5 cm) into six pieces which are 10.0 cm x 14.4 cm. It does mean that there will be some waste - even I really didn't want to find a use for the strip that was 0.5 cm wide or the other piece that was 1.7 cm wide.

The basic cutting pattern looks like this. Please note that this is not to size, but gives you the general idea.

My plan was to make three cards using one side of the paper and three cards using the other but I got a little carried away with the glue before I realised I had done four of one side and two of the other! I am human and do make mistakes.

Anyway, these are the cards that I made.

These are more masculine and would make great cards for men
The Stampin' Up! supplies used to make the two cards above include one of the Sale-A-Bration items (the 2014-2016 In Colour buttons and thick baker's twine) that is no longer available (slap wrist), but I made these before I went away so can't change them now.

These cards and the ones below and more feminine
The cards above use Mossy Meadow ink for the greeting and the cards below use Blackberry Bliss. All of the flowers have been sponged with Blackberry Bliss and I made them using the Petite Petal Punch and also the small flower punch from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack.

Here are a couple of the cards in more detail.

So as you can see, one piece of 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper can give completely different looks depending on which side you choose to use. I am going to take more care when cutting my paper in future, as I love the fact that it's possible to make cards for both men and women out of the one sheet.

PS Just realised that I missed the Pear Pizzazz ink off the list - it was used for the two make cards in the top photo.

Something Borrowed Wedding Cards

It's April, which means that it's Spring and that the main wedding season will soon be upon us. Although I don't have any weddings to go to on my calendar I thought I would make a couple of cards just in case.

The Something Borrowed Designer Series Paper makes wonderful wedding cards because the neutral Sahara Sand co-ordinates with so many colours. With 12 sheets (4 each of 3 double sided sheets) it means that it goes a long way too.

I made both of the following cards using Whisper White, Sahara Sand and Coastal Cabana card stock. The greeting stamped in Sahara Sand ink comes from the Teeny Tiny Sentiments stamp set and the flowers were made using the Petite Petals Punch and one of the punches from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack.

A great card for using up scraps

Each of the flowers were finished with a small pearl from a sheet of Basic Pearls.

These were quick and easy to make and both could be changed into wedding invitations, thank you cards and even anniversary cards by simply changing the sentiment.

The options are endless as you can also simply change the coloured card stock from Coastal Cabana to something more in keeping with the wedding colours.

Fun at training with the Stampin' Up! Bouquet Die

This is one of my favourite projects from last weekend's Team Training, and not just because it's one of the ones that I put together.

I have to confess that I'm not that good at making flowers, so this project took me out of my comfort zone a little, but I think it came out all right.

There are three flowers on top of the box - the main one that you can see is in Pool Party and the two peeking out on the other side are in Calypso Coral. All three flowers have Sahara Sand centres to tie in with the Sahara Sand Lace Trim and the Something Borrowed Designer Series Paper.

All of the flowers were cut out using the Bouquet Bigz L Die and I scrunched the petals before putting them together. There was certainly a lot of groaning going on about the scrunching and a fair few people didn't do it. Personally, I prefer the softer look that the scrunching gives, but it is a case of to each his own.

The greeting comes from the Painted Petals stamp set and I stamped it in Pool Party before cutting out the tag using the Chalk Talk Framelit Dies.

The Pool Party flower is made up of ten petals. Two sets of five petals were glued together using Glue Dots and then the two sets were glued together. Each of the Calypso Coral flowers is made up of two of the daisies with the flower centre rolled and pushed through the centre. I added leaves and branches too to finish it off. All of the flowers and leaves were hot glued to the belly band that goes around the box.

Using up that DSP and a Card Holder Box Tutorial

Everyone attending this months classes will be receiving a whole pack of the All Abloom Designer Series Paper. I have a number of projects lined up for everyone to do plus instructions and other ideas for what they can do at home. I've made up all of my samples and of course I have lots of DSP left. In fact, I seem to have lots of bits left from various packs of DSP, including some from the All Day Event in held in mid February.

At February's event we used the Something Borrowed Designer Series Paper and I've now used my scraps to make a few extra cards. The Whisper White Note Cards are great for this as they are pre-cut and scored and are a great size for this sort of project.

These are the cards that I made.

I made six of these cards and here's a better photo of two of them. This is such an elegant set of papers that I decided to keep the cards simple and used just the Chalk Talk stamp set with the matching Framelits Dies to cut out the medallion (the stamps and framelits are available individually and as a bundle). A 1-3/8" Circle punch was used to punch out the greeting.

Having made the set of cards I needed something to keep them in. I measured the height, width and depth of the pile of cards (including the envelopes) and using Joanne James's (the Crafty Owl) Box Buster Tool I worked out what size of card stock I needed to make the box. Joanne's box buster tool also tells you where to punch and score to make the box using the Envelope Punch Board.

Here are my basic instructions to make the box that holds my six Whisper White Note Cards along with their envelopes.

1. Starting with a 12" x 12" piece of card stock or Designer Series Paper, cut it to 8-5/8" x 8-5/8"
2. Using the Envelope Punch Board, punch and score at 3" and 4-5/8" along the first side.
3. Turn the Card Stock/Designer Series Paper and line up the scores with the Score Guide and punch and score along.
4. Repeat Step 3. until all 4 sides have been punched and scored.

5. Using the photo above as a guide cut off one of the smaller pointed corners.
6. Cut tabs on the opposite side as per the photo.
7. Fold all the score lines and use a Bone Folder to give a good firm fold.

Please note that I have cut off the corner as I don't want to make a box that is fully enclosed. You do not have to cut off the point and can make a full box by simply making the notches.

8. Add Red Sticky Strip as per the above photo. Don't go too mad with the stuff. You only need enough to hold the box together and don't want to end up with it sticking to the contents of your box.

9. Carefully fold and stick the box as per the above photo.
10. Decorate the box as desired.

Here's the two boxes that I have made - one from the Whisper White card stock and the other from some more Designer Series Paper. These DSP packs go a long way!

Have fun giving these a go and if you want to know what Stampin' Up! products I used check out the following:
